How do I hook up an og tv to see the cable television programs?

I have lots of coax cables. I asked the technician that hooked up one og tv if I just hook up the coax cable like the way it's always been to watch tv. He said yes. Unfortunately, I did that and the other television upstairs just has snow on the screen. The other tv that I watch from is og too, but he hooked it up to the DVR box and the Internet cable too..as well as my DVD player. Do I need something other than the coax cable or is the other television I couldn't get working just plain broken?
